Bespoke Stair Treads & Risers

Elesco Bespoke Stair Components

Our in-house joinery team specialises in crafting bespoke stair components to precise specifications. From concept to completion, we are here to guide the process, ensuring industry regulations are met and the finer details have been discussed.

With client expectations often exceedingly high, our experience and technical ability have driven our reputation as one of the best in the industry.

Why bespoke is better than off the shelf

An exact match between a timber floor and staircase is only possible if you use the same timber. This means timber from exactly the same source.

Natural variations in mineral content and wood density are normal in timber, but can vary dramatically depending on the climate and soil where the timber has grown. These variations impact the tone and colour of the finished wood as these variables affect finishing process reactions.

As such, off the shelf nosing’s that are stained up to match a timber floor cannot be guaranteed as a perfect match.

Off the shelf options are usually solid timber. Solid oak will naturally expand and contract with fluctuations in climate. This can cause warping, twisting and gapping which will not be classified as a manufacturers defect. The deeper and longer a solid piece of timber, the more likely it is to move.

Our stair components are a guaranteed match to our flooring as they are made from the same material from the same source. Further, we use the same engineered material as our flooring which substantially reduces the risk of issues with movement, especially with larger tread sizes.

Elesco premium staircase options

We manufacture our treads and risers from the same material as our floors. This ensures consistency in grain pattern and a 100% match to your new Elesco floor.

Hand crafted treads can be made to fit the full depth of any tread with no visible joint, so there is no need for a separate nosing. This option is effective in both material cost and labour as installation is made simple with one component per tread.

Exposed edges can be finished with side returns, available on both treads and risers. Curved components are manufactured using our CNC machinery ensuring a precision millimetre perfect finish.

We also supply a range of brass, aluminium and stainless steel insert options available pre fitted into each tread or riser.

Precision CAD Mapping & CNC Cutting

For more complex designs we offer a digital mapping service. This method involves us attending site to surveying the staircase. We then input this data into our software and run the programme through our CNC machinery. Each component is produced to mm precision before being hand joined and finished to the highest Elesco standard.

CAD mapping removes costs associated with producing physical templates and guarantees a precision-made product for a seamless installation.

This service is highly recommended for curved staircases with open stringers where it is difficult to achieve a perfect radius on the open-ended treads with physical templates.

Commercial Projects

We work with designers, architects and contractors to ensure British regulations are met. All Elesco products can be tested and certificated for LRV and PTV values on request.

Staircase components are also available with our Elesco FR treatment with classifications achieving Bfl- S1 to EN13501-1. This is the highest fire rating achievable with a timber product.
