Project Overview
"Hampton's" coastal luxury, crafted by blending creativity, functionality, and the client's individual needs, style and preferences. Designed by Susan Van Meter Interiors, this Whitstable coastal residence experienced transformation from a newly built shell into a refined yet relaxed seaside home. The brief centred on warmth, texture, and continuity — creating an interior that feels calm, tactile, and connected from floor to ceiling.
Flooring & Finish
Riva 300mm width planks were specified throughout the residence. Chosen for both size and scale, the long and wide format plank emphasise craftsmanship and elevate the overall experience of the interior. Installed seamlessly as both flooring and ceiling cladding, the large format plank creates a strong architectural rhythm and unified material expression. Our Elstow ‘featheffect’ finish is perfectly attuned to the surrounding coast line with its washed out tones and characterful surface.
Design Detailing
Careful attention was given to interior timber selection to ensure quality and aesthetic balance throughout the home.
Transitions between floor and ceiling were intentionally resolved with minimal visual interruption, reinforcing the floors architectural presence rather than treating it as a surface finish. The use of the large scale Featheffect plank creates a clear rhythm that guides movement through the space and strengthens spatial flow.
Our Featheffect Elstow finish plays a crucial role in the interior design. Its layered tones and matte UV finish softens light and reduces glare, important with the expansive windows that showcase Whitstable’s glorious views.
Featheffect enhances both grain definition and natural character of the high quality European Oak. Achieved through multiple time consuming processes, the passion and experience of our artisan craftsman can be felt in every plank.
The Result
The interior design by Susan Van meter epitomises coastal luxury. The finished home is cohesive and highly considered, where craftsmanship is evident in both material selection and design execution.
